Our aim

The overall aim is to control and minimize an increasing health problem in the poultry sector due to parasitic (ascarid) worm infections, which has aroused as a result of the ban on conventional battery cages (EU council directive 1999/74/EC). Many European egg producers are facing this problem today, which leads to reduced health and decreased productivity in the sector. In the absence of a reliable parasite control method, our idea is to mitigate this problem by developing and implementing a sustainable worm control strategy, which combines a novel PCR-based diagnostic method with a targeted treatment approach.
